Planning for a bachelor party is always tough. Everybody has ideas about what you should do and where you should go. And many times, you listen to someone else’s idea and wind up doing something you didn’t want to do in the first place.

It doesn’t have to be that way. You can plan on doing something that is fun for you and for your guests as well. If you’re a fan of golf, have a golf getaway weekend! Even if some of your groomsmen aren’t that into golf, most golf courses offer other activities for your group to participate in. Besides, who would turn down a day spent in the gorgeous outdoors with friends?

Why a Golf Getaway Is a Great Choice for a Bachelor Party

If you love to play golf, this one’s a no-brainer. The golf course at Pursell Farms, FarmLinks, offers 18 holes of wide-open fairways and lush, speedy greens. It’s challenging enough for the expert while still giving less experienced golfers a great chance of shooting their career low, making it one of the most attractive and player-friendly golf courses in the Southeast. It’s the perfect place for your golf vacation.

Because golf trips should be fun, all the holes at FarmLinks at Pursell Farms have a singular personality and story behind them. Their inventive names give golfers a clue as to why the holes have the names that they do. Big Gulp has a body of water standing between you and the hole and it likes to be fed golf balls. Sawmill gets its name because a railroad stopped there to pick up lumber. And you’ll just have to find out for yourself why one of the holes is called Baby Rattler.

A fun feature that’s unique to Pursell Farms golf course are the historical markers at each hole. Each marker has a bit of the American history that helped shape the Sylacauga, Alabama area. Learn about Hernando de Soto’s journey through Sylacauaga, illegal Prohibition-era operations, and Civil War tales that you’ll be sharing over dinner.

Maybe Pursell Farms is too big of a journey for your bachelor trip – that’s okay! Check out our guide to the best stay and play packages in the Southeast. If you’re planning on going somewhere else in the country, a golf getaway is still a great way to relax and have a great time.

Plenty of Activities to Choose From

From the professional golfer to the amateur golfer to the non-golfer, locations like Pursell Farms now include more activities than ever. With such a variety of activities available, they will keep all members of your bachelor party happy and entertained. Check out your possible location’s website or Instagram for a sampling of the activities they may offer. Here are some that we have at Pursell Farms –

Spring House Spa

Choose from the many treatments available, including the Spring House Signature Massage or the Warm Stone Massage. Any of the treatments will make you feel relaxed, refreshed, and renewed…which might be nice after some late nights celebrating.

Shooting and Fishing

The ORVIS Shooting Grounds at Pursell Farms features more than 1,000 acres of oak and pine forests. There you can indulge in the sporting clays course which offers 15 stations to simulate field shots from different hunting scenarios.

If fly fishing is your interest, our expert ORVIS fishing instructors teach casting techniques, fly tying, and choosing the right flies. At the end of the instruction, you’ll be able to fly fish on your own.

Both shooting and fishing are great lightly competitive activities to get your entire bachelor party involved.

UTV Mountain Experience

Looking for some off-roading adventure? With our UTV Mountain Experience, you can explore sections of the farm that most can’t get to. Race through the woods and splash through puddles to get the full and fun experience. Last place buys a round for the whole group!

Archery

Pick up a bow and arrow and aim at targets on our  outdoor course or take part in a 3D archery competition. Do well enough and you’ll have bragging rights all weekend.

Axe Throwing

Axe throwing has seen a huge surge in popularity, so why not incorporate it into your bachelor weekend. Our certified staff will instruct you to make sure your experience is fun, and above all, safe.

Sunset at the Secret Place

The top of Chalybeate Mountain offers a sunset experience unlike any other. Enjoy some wine and relax with a snack as you experience a breathtaking sunset and beautiful views overlooking the bucolic Alabama countryside from an 1,100 foot perch..

Pursell Farms History Tour

Pursell Farms has a history dating back to the 1540s. Learn all about it on this fun and historical tour. This one is for the history buff groomsman.

Tennis and Pickleball Courts

Play tennis or for a more accessible sport, try pickleball. While there are no pickles involved, it’s similar to tennis and is sure to give you a terrific workout.

Recreation

Golf carts, e-bikes, pedal boats and bicycles are available to rent, so you can tour the beautiful scenery. There are also walking trails, a bocce ball court, a sun and pool deck, and a new fitness center.

Top Class Dining

Having good places to eat is key to having a great bachelor weekend. You don’t want anyone getting too ‘hangry’ and ruining the weekend for everyone. Look for a location that has on-site dining, so that your meals are no-brainers. If the location doesn’t have on-site dining, make sure that there’s great places within driving – or Uber/Lyft –  distance.
